San Tan Flat
About this place
San Tan Flat is built to look like an old western mining camp, and almost everything about it is meant to be enjoyed outdoors. The steakhouse at 6185 Hunt Highway in Queen Creek opened on November 1, 2005, the idea of owner Dale Bell, who spent time exploring Pinal County with his young son before settling on this piece of land.
The courtyard and the campfires
The layout centers on a courtyard open to the sky, with an open patio behind it that has benches, western artifacts and campfires. Guests sit outside under the stars, and the restaurant sells s'mores kits and marshmallows so you can roast your own at the fire pits. One side has a covered open-air stage where country, bluegrass and other live music plays in the evenings and on weekends.
Food
The menu is casual steakhouse and bar-and-grill fare: burgers, sandwiches, wraps and quesadillas, plus "Signature Selects" like Rancher Tips, which are house-cut tenderloin tips lightly breaded and served in an 8-ounce portion. A selection of craft beer is available too.
The dancing dispute
San Tan Flat became known beyond Queen Creek when it clashed with Pinal County officials over whether customers could dance at the restaurant. The owner fought the rules in court and won, which is why live shows here come with space to dance.
